Today I sat in Nero in town waiting for my friend. As I watched through the window I noticed so many people looking very serious, and very few people with a smile on their face.
I started to think about how mental chatter really does consume us, especially when we are walking through town.
We all have this tendency to get lost in our own world of thought. We are all naturally programmed to worry too, about what might go wrong and the worst things we have done…. Unless of course we are practising Mindfulness!
Mindfulness is all about being present in the moment. Mindfulness can give us our sparkle back!
Appreciating the beauty of the Christmas decorations around town,
Noticing that the day is a bit warmer than we have been used to,
Feeling the ground under our feet as we walk…
all of these are ways to keep ourselves present in the moment.
The benefit of being present in the moment is that you are likely to notice that everything is OK. Maybe even good. Just in that moment.
Whatever is worrying you fades from your thoughts if you can just appreciate that all is good in the present moment.
Each time your mind slips away to worry just bring it back, back to your feet on the floor, the sights that you see, and perhaps the smile that you feel on your face!
