I have absolutely loved the weather warming up. I have been outside as much as possible soaking the rays to get as much Vitamin D into my body as I can. It also got me on a bit of a mission to drink more (water not red wine) and to make sure Noah does too.
We have been making our water more interesting this week by adding a few healthy bits and bobs! We have had different combinations of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cucumber and pure apple juice added and it has made such a difference. Freezing the fruit is a good plan because then it works like ice cubes. So we have both been drinking more water and feeling great for it.
It absolutely amazes me how much difference my hydration levels make to how I feel. If I am well hydrated I feel so energised and awake compared to the lethargic, heavy feeling I get when I haven’t had enough to drink. I notice it most when I am at my computer for work. Keeping a glass of water on my desk is an essential for a good focussed day.
Being mindful really helps us to take note of the small things that make our day better. We really learn to listen to our bodies. Rather than sitting working feeling worse and worse you have the awareness to see clearly what you need to do to get up and sort yourself out.
When you are well hydrated you tend to only eat when you are truly hungry so if you are seeking to loose a few pounds before you hit the beach this summer this could work really well. Rather than getting a snack get a nice drink. Before you know it you will be looking and feeling great.
Some of us struggle to implement change but add a few moments of mindfulness each time you think you want something to eat or drink and you will be able to make much better decisions. Next time you approach the fridge sit down just for a minute and take 10 deep breaths. Then make your decision about what you have. Just this small amount of headspace before you dive in to get your next treat really does make a massive difference. If you have a craving for something keep in mind that it is just a thought, you don’t have to go with it.
