We all have those mornings where we look in the wardrobe and think, in despair, I have nothing to wear! This is despite the fact that your clothes are spilling out. Or, you buy a new top and then it becomes the only thing you can think of wearing, you wonder how you ever managed without it and can’t think of anything else to wear. It seems we get stuck in a clothes rut.
I’ve had two wardrobe changing realisations! Choose colour and layer.
When I first met my husband he commented that my wardrobe was very black. A nice safe colour, I thought it was alway flattering, simple as everything coordinated, and it was smart for work.
The injection of colour into my clothing that has happened over the past couple of years is amazing. I love it. When I look back at photos of me in black I look washed out, pale, almost ill. Now in colour I look healthier and I’m happier! A glance into my wardrobe now reveals a much more varied and cheerful scene.
I think at the route of this change is better body confidence. This comes from all sorts of sources. Since mindfulness entered into my life I eat better, lots of fruit and veg are keeping my skin clear. I exercise better, short sessions daily rather than a few really hard sessions a week keep me fit but not worn out. I am less stressed and have more presence of mind in putting combinations together.
This takes me onto the second change, layering. It is truly amazing the different outfits you create when you are open minded and try out new combinations. Yesterday for example I wore two tops that I nearly sent to the charity shop but then had a last minute pang of inspiration. I felt great in them. One was really bright yellow, I love the colour but it was too clingy over my bum to look good. The other, a longer black fitted top. So I had nearly ruled the shirt out on colour alone. Then in a post meditation moment of clear thinking I put the two together, the flash of yellow popping our both ends of the black made all the difference.
So get mindful, get creative and reveal a whole new wardrobe. Come on a Revitalise Day to begin your journey to greater body confidence and to get creative clothes combinations flowing in your life!
