Making time for a short walk in your day really can make all the difference. I love to use my lunch break to get out and get some fresh air and the benefits it has are amazing.
I took the lovely Freddie for a brisk walk on my lunch break today. Before I went I was getting a bit lethargic and I could quite easily have fancied a snooze or some stodgy food as an alternative. Then I thought of Freddie and thought how much she would love a run about and this got me in my wellies and out the door.
The weather wasn’t great but that didn’t matter, as long as you are dressed for it somehow it really is fine.
If I have a walking pal I love to chat and that has it’s benefits. You can cover all sorts of topics over a couple of fields!
If I walk alone I love to do some meditation whilst I go, this way my mind gets some attention as well as my body. If you have been concentrating at work it provides a real break.
Walk as normal and get into a rhythm that is comfortable for you, not too slow, not too fast.
Once you feel settled then place all your focus on your toes, feel any sensations, keep your attention there for about 10 strides.
Then do the same with your knees, then your shoulders and finally your head. Then back down through the same points and repeat.
This mindful version of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes is great for training your mind to focus.
When we focus we still need to have the ability to allow our thoughts to flow. By moving from one area to another in our body we connect our mind and body and we recreate a situation where we allow our focus to move form one thing to another as we direct it. Mental agility at it’s best.
When I got back from my walk today I felt really refreshed and ready to sit back at my desk and log on again. I had a healthy smoothie for my lunch and a very productive afternoon. It truly is amazing what a bit of fresh air can do for us.
Great company is part of it too, thank you Freddie x
