A few days ago Martyn and I were just getting up when we heard the cuckoo. And then we heard it again. After far too many minutes we both realised that actually it was the alarm clock!
Because the clocks had changed the alarm had reset and the noise to wake us up had altered. The sound was so realistic that it fooled us both, we really thought it was actually the cuckoo!
We both had a good laugh at ourselves and that was a great way to start the day!
It got me thinking about how much the way we start our day has a huge impact on how we feel for the rest of the day.
So many of us wake to the alarm on our mobile phones. The trouble is that phones do everything now so when you turn the alarm off you are likely to be drawn in to checking your emails, your texts, your diary and your social media.
Allowing the world in as soon as you wake can be a risky business. You are so much better to give yourself some time, some breathing space.
By creating a bit of time for yourself you can be fully prepared to handle the world when you do decided to let it in.
To be more mindful and more prepared try leaving the internet and your mobile phone alone for the first half an hour when you wake. Make looking after yourself the priority.
Get up in peace. Make yourself a drink. Sort yourself out before you try to accommodate other people.
Allow yourself at least 5 minutes of sitting still and listening to your breathing. Just a short session of meditation will make so much difference to how you handle things when the day gets going.
If you feel that you need to learn to relax and look after yourself more then book onto a Revitalise Day.
The opportunity to take some time to reflect on how you handle life really is the perfect chance to change how you do things for the better.
