Meditation can be an odd concept to get your head round. Many of us resort to meditation in an attempt to try and clear our minds. Is it then a contradiction that when you sit in the quiet you become even more aware of your thoughts?!
Try thinking of it like this….
Picture a pool of water.
When a pebble gets thrown in to the water it creates ripples and disturbs the peace and stillness of the water.
If you wait you know that it will settle again.
The pebble is like a thought creating ripples in your mind.
Imagine now a big bucket full of pebbles / lots and lots of thoughts! They make the water / your mind more disturbed, cloudy, and perhaps impossible to see clearly through.
However, if you sit and wait the water / your mind, will become clear and calm. You know it just takes time.
So when you first sit down to meditate the thoughts are likely to come thick and fast. Just watch them and wait and before too long you will be clear minded and able to enjoy some peace.
Know that just like waiting for the water to clear you can’t force it. Be patient and kind and it will happen all on its own!
Come on a Revitalise Day to give your mind a great opportunity to settle and to experience a really clear mind.
