Well this morning really tested my love. It was noisy and exhausting… and not in the way you might expect!
I invited Noah’s cousins who are 6 and 8 for a sleep over. They were lovely last night, we had tea together, played games and then had a mid night (8.30) feast before they went to sleep. They were all worn out and going to bed was no problem.
The problems started at 5am today when they all woke up far too excited to be in the same room. They were giggling, screaming. banging and being very loud.
The noise gradually came into my awareness as it woke me up. More than being annoyed for myself I was concerned about our neighbours who are only a wall away. I went down and told them that they could play but that they needed to keep the noise down. Then I went back to bed.
I had to go down twice more as they kept the noise up. Then finally at 7.30 I decided it was time to get up and sort them out.
They had made me cross and I did shout at the time but when I went down for breakfast with them I was intent on making it a nice experience. They sleep over was mainly really nice and I wanted it to end that way with a fun valentines breakfast.
So before I went to join the children I sat for a moment on the end of my bed and put in the intention to be kind and patient. It worked wonders.
As I made 3 heart shaped plates of porridge for them I felt happy doing it, it was a lovely excuse to be creative and I wanted to make the morning special. As I found them heart design cups to drink out of I loved the fact that they were enthusiastic and excited and it felt great to be doing something that they appreciated.
As we said good bye to them at 9.30 I felt genuinely happy despite the unwelcome early start to the day.
This experience totally proved to me that the best way to improve difficult times in any relationship is to work on it. If you get grumpy and back off things only deteriorate.
If you focus on acts of kindness then you feel better about yourself and you tend to get some positive response which helps to sort things out.
If you need to see a way to improve a relationship in your life book a Revitalise Session where you could become inspired to make some positive and mindful moves that will make all the difference.
