As Valentine’s day approaches it is a real reminder for all of us to value those who we love…and those who we don’t.
When we appreciate others we feel good about ourselves. When we are negative about them we have negative thoughts and negative thoughts have a real tendency to multiply and spread and to make us feel generally down. They seem to be contagious. If we moan about one thing that someone does that annoys us suddenly everything they do annoys us. If we feel down about one thing in our own lives, before we know it, everything appears to be going wrong. It can feel like we are on a downwards spiral and as though we have no control.
If we are mindful we can break this chain of negativity and turn it around. With a bit of brain training we can feel on top of things again. Try breaking that cycle now…
Think of someone you love, someone you feel close to, someone you are getting on well with at the moment. If you are struggling to think of someone maybe chose a pet. They can be the most loyal and loving of all. Picture them in a place you think that they would be comfortable in and picture them looking as happy as they can be. When you have them looking really happy in your mind move on to someone you are finding a bit more difficult and get them looking as happy as they can in your mind. When the image fades you will be left with a warm and contented feeling.
Do this exercise often and you will find yourself smiling more. Your mind will feel kinder and you will feel like a better person. When you are feeling kind you will be nicer to people and in return people will be nicer to you, even those who you haven’t been feeling so keen on. Positivity breads positivity, before you know it you will be on a real winning streak.
Come on a Revitalise Day and get to grips with training your brain in lots of different ways. What ever you want to achieve cultivating kindness is a great place to start.
