Today I am getting the train to London to deliver a workshop on Mindfulness And Change In The Workplace.
I have been looking forward to the trip, not only because of the session but also because I will LOVE the train journey.
No, I am not a trainspotter!
I just use the journey to Meditate.
Think there would be too many distractions? Well think again.
I often sing the praises of distraction in Meditation. Each time your mind gets pulled away from the exercise, by a noise, thought, or feeling, it is the perfect reminder to come back to the exercise.
So when I get onto the train I sit down, get comfy and close my eyes. I then Meditate my way through the journey.
It is the perfect place to do it. There is no where you can go and few jobs you can get done. No one thinks you re weird for closing your eyes on a train. And there are plenty of distractions to use.
When you pull into a station, when there is an announcement, or when someone elses phone rings you can use the noise to remind you that your were meditating. You can then bring your attention back to the exercise you were doing.
So don’t be put off by distractions – use them wherever you are!
