This evening I was leading a meditation session in Hinckley. Getting there meant tackling the M1 at rush hour, never a great prospect.
I could think of plenty of better roads to be on!
The road was so congested and the traffic was barely moving. I could see the arrival time getting closer and closer to the beginning of the session.
To add to the potential stress I noticed that my phone battery was gong down rapidly and I was relying on that completely for directions to the venue!
Rather than getting in a tiz, which would do me no good, I focussed on my breathing.I focussed on my out breaths so that I made my tummy go as flat as I could each time. This meant that the in breaths were naturally deeper.
By focussing on my breath I prevented my mind from running riot. It kept me present in the moment. It kept me in the real world, not in a fantasy world of catastrophe which would have been easy to slip into!
By keeping my calm I arrived having done some brilliant breathing exercises and feeling ready to go. I felt good despite the less than perfect journey.Because I stayed present in the moment I found my way there no problem and everything worked out well.
If you could do with handling heavy traffic and time pressures in a better way then why not give mindfulness a go. Coaching with Revitalise Days really is about practical skills that transfer to every day life.
