This morning Noah, Martyn and I went to see Martyn’s mum. She has been away on a cruise for quite a while and we have really missed her.
When she greeted us we said it seems like AGES! And it did. Absolutely ages.
She said that because they were the ones on holiday it didn’t seem like long to her. It had gone in a flash!
This struck me as being so true. When you are the one on holiday things tend to fly by – as long as you are enjoying yourself! You are interested and absorbed in all the new experiences and things happen fast!
If you are the ones left at home time can go more slowly because you are in your usual routine of work / school / normal life!
It made me think about the different frame of mind that we have on holiday and how we could benefit if we could replicate this a bit at home.
So when we are on holiday we tend to unwind and relax. When we are less tense our bodies are more comfortable and our thoughts slow down. If you are at home then Meditation can do the same for you. Just a few minutes a day could make so much difference.
When we are on holiday having new experiences we are focussed and interested in the moment rather than worrying. If you can build your focus and attention then you could be more like this at home. This way you will be present in the moment rather than worrying about the past or the future!
So taking a moment to reflect on what makes holidays work could mean that you make every day more like the holiday experience!
