Today I had planned to get on with a few jobs with the website. The sun came out and this really got me in the mood to be sociable. I couldn’t be inside on the computer when I could be outside enjoying the lovely weather.
Instead our family got together for lunch. Then we decided it would be a perfect afternoon to get working on the new family vegetable patch. We all love a challenge and Dad had given us a head start by ploughing the grass first.
It took a lot of digging to sort the patch but we chatted whilst we did it and the children ran off and had adventures in the field. They loved it. When we had finally finished it we all sat and had a well deserved drink together. Perfect.
The day made me really happy. I spent a lot of time with the people I love being active and doing a good job. I loved it.
It got me thinking about how lovely it is to have some time without any real commitments. Most of us spend our working week tied to jobs that have to be done what ever the weather. When you get the chance to do what ever you like you really should take it and enjoy it to the full. Jobs than can wait should wait. Living in the moment means you are well equipped to adapt to changing circumstances and make the most of them.
Sometimes when you fail to stick to plans you can feel guilty because you haven’t done a job that you intended to do. Feeling guilty whist you are doing something takes away so much of the enjoyment. Freeing yourself of this guilty is easier said than done! Mindfulness is the perfect tool to help. It teaches you to live in the moment and focus on what you are doing fully. This means there is no mental energy wasted on guilt.
I found digging the ground the perfect mindful activity. Feeling the weight of the spade and concentrating on breaking up the clumps of soil really took all of my attention. Because I was present in the moment I was really happy. I didn’t worry about sorting out the website I just enjoyed every minute of what I was doing.
When you are happy the joy that you feel spreads around you. Those who you are with feel your joy and they too have a great time. Good times with those you love should always come first when they can.
Come on a Revitalise Day to learn how to think more clearly and discover how you make more of your time. Changing the way you think can make so much difference to how much happiness you experience. Our day retreats provide the perfect opportunity to stop and reflect on the way you live your life. When you think clearly any changes that need making will seem so obvious.
The retreats are held in the beautiful Leicestershire village of Walton on the Wolds and they are the perfect break from everyday worries and stresses, they are a great way to become more mindful.
