People love it when I tell them that mindfulness can help you get to sleep.
You need to let your mind slow down in order to rest. If you go from rushing around mentally or physically to lying still trying to sleep all of a sudden you are likely to fail and get frustrated. What you really need is to gradually unwind.
Here are 3 top tips to help…
1) Turn off all of your devices an hour before bed – your phone, computer, iPad – yes everything! Reading on screens really messes with your mind. It gets it working on a whole different level and connects you to the hectic world of communication.
2) Make your bedroom your chill out zone – no more TV, screens etc. It is your place to come back to being you. No more interference from the outside world. Our bodies love routine and once you make your room your place for relaxing your body and mind will start to recognise this.
3) Physically slow down as you pre pare to sleep. Don’t rush about doing jobs. Try sitting still or moving more slowly. Let your body and mind unwind. They are so interconnected that by slowing your body down your mind will do the same!
