However tried you are switching off when you get into bed can be a real problem.
Recently I have been spending too long online. We have been looking for a holiday cottage. I have spent a few evenings going through websites looking for the right place.
The challenge has been increased by the fact that we want to take 2 dogs away with us and we want to go during a busy week.
So when I have finally given up each evening and decided that sleep is more important I have been left with a busy mind and eyes that have been tuned into a screen for far too long.
Thankfully meditation has given me the know how to allow myself to switch off.
If you struggle to switch off then meditation really could be the key. By sitting each day to relax your body and mind you train yourself to switch off. This means when you really need to switch off you can do it more easily.
Sit on a chair in the daytime when you are wide awake.
Make sure you back is upright.
Relax each part of your body in turn by simply focusing on an area and feeling the relaxation that comes with each out breath.
Start with your head, move down to your arms, then your torso and finally through your legs and feet.
Taking the attention away from your mind and to your body really helps to let your thoughts settle and helps you to find some calm.
And when you get into bed at night and the thoughts are whizzing through your mind try the exercise again. The more you do it the more easily you will relax. It really is an amazing skill to develop.
Come on a Revitalise Session to experience the amazing impact of relaxation and brain training.
