When you have finished exercising it is so important to stretch the muscles that you have been using. It is easy in our hectic lives to do a real half hearted job, a few seconds on one leg a few on the other, our mind already racing ahead to the next thing and then rushing on with our day.
When you work out you perform contraction after contraction leaving your muscles in a shortened state. Stretching helps to reset your body to a natural position and posture, it also improves and maintains flexibility. If you fail to pay attention to areas that are overly tight you may well pay the price later on with increased soreness and stiffness.
Being mindful about stretching has benefits, remember to do it and your body will be better off. Your mind will enjoy a few moments of calm too so if you can take your time and enjoy the stillness.
Keeping your mind focussed whilst you stretch can be a challenge too, another easy time for our mind to get deep into another thought. Take a few deep breaths along side your stretching, this will keep you in the moment and feeling the stretch as you do it.
If you are limited on the time you have for your exercise session then being clear headed about where you need to stretch means that you stretch the part you intended and that you won’t take up valuable moments on areas that are not a priority,
