This afternoon I took Noah and his lovely cousin to the Strawberry picking farm. Noah and I tried to go last week and had already experienced one disappointment as the place was deserted and it turned out the fields were shut because the fruit wasn’t ready.
Today was different. We arrived to see a huge queue waiting to pay for the fruit that they had picked. Everyone seemed to have picked masses.
We set off hopefully with a basket each, but about 20 minutes later we were walking back still with empty baskets.
It turned out that the strawberries were tiny and few and far between. Picking them was not very attractive at all. The people in the queue all had raspberries and we have lots of those at home.
So as a consolation we stopped at the garage on the way home to get an ice lolly.
The trouble was the garage had run out of lollies!
So we came home and the children had a lolly from the home freezer. Then they happily went to play in the garden. They had the sprinkler on and ran about getting wet in the sunshine. Not a second thought for either the strawberry or the ice lolly disappointment!
It got me thinking how Mindful children are. No matter what comes their way in life they get over it pretty fast. They are always ready to get on and take advantage of the next activity that they can enjoy.
This is what Mindfulness is all about. There is no point wasting time on regrets and disappointment. If we can apply a more childlike approach and be open to getting on and enjoying the next thing then we get so much more out of life.
Come on a Revitalise Session to get set up with the tools to allow you to try this new positive approach to life.
