On Sunday afternoon Noah and I got into bed for a snooze. He drifted off almost immediately after an exhausting morning of activity.
I’d had an equally exhausting morning but as I lay to sleep my mind was very active. Far too active to drift off…well at first.
So I lay flat on my back and Meditated. Sometimes Meditation is really handy to calm the mind and to allow sleep to come.
There is no forcing sleep. The more you try the less likely it comes and the more stressed you get. If you learn to turn your attention to Meditation instead you will be amazed at the speed with which sleep comes your way.
Next time you find yourself frustrated when your mind won’t switch off try this.
Keep your eyes open with a soft gaze towards the ceiling for 5 deep breaths. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Then allow your eyes to close and focus on the breath.
Start to notice the pauses at the beginning and the end of each breath.
If your mind wanders then bring it back to the pauses.
Before you know it you will be dreaming rather than thinking! Perfect.
