This morning Mum and I went for a run / walk in the sunshine. The weather was perfect – breezy but very bright.
As we came home I felt a real longing to go further and stay out longer because I was loving it so much.
Then I brought my thoughts back to the moment and realised that actually I was ready for a rest. When I got in and sat down with a Chamomile tea in the sunshine it was just as perfect. But in a different way.
Mindfulness and brain training allow us to recognise that nothing stays the same. Also that change can be good.
In life it can be tempting to try and hang on to lovely moments. Although this is natural it can also mean that we feel sad when those good moments have gone. The trick is to learn to enjoy every moment as it comes along.
As human beings we are programmed to be negative in our outlook. The good news is we can train ourselves to be positive in our outlook without too much trouble.
All we need to do is to actively appreciate the positive in every moment. It may be small but there is always a positive. Soon this act of seeking out the positive will become natural and less of a concerted effort.
Keeping the brain active and appreciating the positive in every moment is a great way to be more Mindful. Give it a go!
