See Clearly With Mindfulness

11th December 2015 by Alex Leave a Comment

Since I was in my early 20s I have had to wear glasses for driving and for watching TV. I was remembering the other day that amazement I felt when I walked out of the opticians for the first time with glasses on and I saw the world clearly! It was such a change.

Glasses

My sight had obviously deteriorated over time and I hadn’t realised how fuzzy the world was looking. Since then I have moved on to wear contact lenses but I still appreciate the extra clarity each time I put them in. Once you have experienced clearer vision you don’t want to put up with a less than perfect image!

It strikes me that this difference is so similar to the difference between my mind when I am hectic and my mind when I have meditated. Mindfulness can make the same difference, it can clarify a fuzzy world!

When I try to explain to others the benefit of mindfulness I always struggle to convey the massive difference it makes. The best way is to show people, to let them experience it for themselves. To let them see what it is to be clear minded.

If you want to see what a difference it could make to you try this…

1) Sit up straight on a chair with your feet flat on the floor and your hands on your legs.

2) Take a few deep breaths.

3) Let your breathing return to normal and then watch your breath. Be an observer of your breath. Do not interfere or change your breath.

4) Each time your mind wanders bring your attention back to your breath.

5) Do this for a set period and when your timer goes off take some time to let your mind rest. Let it do whatever it wants to do.

Repeat this a few times over a few days and you will start to experience glimpses of a clear mind. By spending some time paying attention to your mind you allow it to slow down all on its own. As your thoughts slow you will focus more easily and when you allow your mind the freedom to go where it wants you might just find it stays nice and quiet. You might find that you see things really clearly. Perfect.

Come on a Revitalise Day to get a real head start in finding peace of mind. The techniques you lean will set you up for a calmer, happier and more productive life.
