Today I was delivering a Mindfulness and Meditation session in a local school. It was a group of 19 in a room that was only just big enough.
It got me thinking about how important the lay out of a group mindfulness session is.
When we sit to Meditate closing our eyes is the best way to cut out visual distraction. By taking all of the things we could be looking at, out of the equation, we cut out a huge amount of mental chatter. This is a great start for a quieter mind!
In a Mindfulness session we are asking our minds to focus as we direct them. Alongside this I aim to create an environment and a session where those joining in can really relax.
Whether we are sitting with people who are our friends or with complete strangers it can feel odd being too close. The last thing I want is for that to put people off.
Today because I knew we had a large group I set the chairs out so that everyone had as much of their own space as possible and so that no one was in the direct eye line of another.
This really worked. Everyone felt safe and secure in their own little zone. No one seemed to feel self conscious, there was barely any fidgeting and I saw a fare few nodding heads. When ever I see a nodding head I know that I have chilled people out!
Be assured that if you come on a Revitalise Session you will be in a comfortable environment, never too close to another and always able to talk to me about your individual needs.
