Bo the poodle is just back on running form having had a litter of lovely pups!
And I have been LOVING taking her out again.
She isn’t up to full fitness so I have had to take it easy. Every now and then we have a walk so she can catch her breath.
I think having the incentive to look after Bo has made me enjoy my runs even more. Somehow needing to walk for her feels so much better than needing to walk for me!
I think this totally reflects how I am in life too. I love to look after someone else. It is so much easier to be kind to another than kind to myself. For most of us being kind to ourselves is a constant challenge.
Mindfulness really teaches us that we need to look after ourselves to be capable of helping others.
The grounding of being patient and kind comes when we learn to be that way to ourselves – then we have the ability to pass it on to others.
A good way to cultivate a kinder attitude to ourselves is to actively change our thinking. Next time you find that you are beating yourself up about something stop and think what you would say to a friend in the same situation.
