Whilst we were on our recent holiday in Vietnam we were really lucky with the weather. Despite the fact it was approaching monsoon season we had full days of sunshine for 14 out of the 16 days that we were there.
In the weeks leading up to the trip it was hard to resist looking at the weather forecast. When every day showed thunder showers we were a little worried! In the end there was no need to be concerned at all!
It made me think this is the case in so many areas of life. We spend our time worrying about things that might happen. If we can just learn to live in the moment then we can do away with masses of mental anguish.
I spent a lot of time this holiday in the sea with Noah who was determined to learn to swim. On the stormy days that we did have it was still great to be in the water. It was still warm and the rain really didn’t matter at all.
At first as we watched the waves approaching it was easy to worry that we were going to get out of our depth, that they might sweep us off our feet. My natural instinct was to pick Noah up to protect him and to keep hold of him. We got used to the pattern of the waves and we learnt that by the time they got to us they had lost their power and we could simply float through them. Again in life this is so true. You can build a situation into a disaster in your mind yet when you get there everything actually goes fine.
Trying to keep this in mind in everyday life is not always easy but mindfulness really helps. Having the ability and the presence of mind to simply watch what is going on can result in a much calmer and more peaceful approach to life. Everything seems a little easier when you know your mind. You can chose when you need to take action but making the choice whether to act seems so much clearer.
Come on a Revitalise Day to experience how mindfulness can help your life to be a smoother ride. You will leave motivated to maintain a regular mindfulness practice. The day itself is a lovely break from everyday life, it is such a treat to take some time for yourself in a stunning location and with amazing food provided throughout the day.
