On our recent holiday in Vietnam we were totally surrounded by rice!
We cycled through the rice fields and we ate rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And often for a snack too.
Over the three weeks that we were there we enjoyed the rice in so many ways. Noah, our 4 year old, loved it with soy sauce. I loved a squeeze of lime and a pinch of salt. Through the course of the holiday I built up a real taste for chilli sauce on my rice too. At breakfast we tipped a mango smoothy onto the rice and mixed it into a type of rice pudding. Totally amazing.
There were so many ways to enjoy it, the rice never became dull.We LOVED it. In fact I would say the more I ate it the more I appreciated it.
It struck me how similar to meditation this is. You can meditate three times a day and it never becomes dull. Each time you give your mind the chance to settle you can appreciate something new in the experience.
In just the same way as eating rice for every meal you can find new enjoyment each time you sit to meditate. Your senses fine tune to the experience and this leads to more nourishment and satisfaction.
Sometimes repetition is good. With Meditation it is certainly the way to increase the benefit that you get from the experience. Try little and often and see your state mind change for the good over time. You will love the difference.
