Today Noah and I went to our lovely friend Sian’s for lunch. We had a really lovely time. She made us the most gorgeous food, sweet potato, wild salmon and guacamole, a gorsous combination. We chatted, exchanged gifts and then children played. It really was perfect.
We drove home and Noah fell asleep in the car. I carefully carried him in and covered him up on the sofa and amazingly he continued to sleep.
I went in the other room and did 20 minutes meditation, it totally sorted me out. I was really in need of some revitalisation. I have had too many late nights, early mornings and busy days.
I am really aware that there is a whole week until Christmas and many more parties and busy times ahead of us. Were it not for meditation I would be wondering how I was going to have the energy to enjoy all of it to the full.
If you are already feeling a bit frazzled by the festivities some short meditations could be just what you need to get you through.
You don’t need to sit for long but taking 5 minutes whenever you can really does make all the difference. When you slow down and focus on your breathing you take in more oxygen. As that gets transported round the body you start to feel the benefit. Rather than feeling tired and heavy you feel refreshed and ready to go again. Your body and your mind will thank you for the rest.
If you can, take 5 minutes now. Set the timer on your phone. Sit up straight in a chair and take 6 or 7 deep breaths. Your breath should be loud enough that someone sitting next to you would hear. Breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. Let your breathing return to normal and then just notice how your whole body relaxes a little bit more with each out breath. That’s all you need to do!
Don’t worry if your mind keeps wandering, simply bring your attention back to your breathing each time it does. You aren’t doing anything wrong. We all have hectic minds, just by taking these few minutes you will allow your mind to slow down and to recover before you ask it to go back to work.
Come on a Revitalise Day to see how you can feel more energised on a daily basis. The steps are simple, having the motivation to stick with it is the challenge!
