We all seem to thrive on being busy. It almost seems to be a sign of success if you are too booked up it’s a sign that you are in demand, popular, wanted, needed! People claim not to have ‘a window’, ‘an opening’, almost as though they are proud to be unavailable. We really can get caught up in this and as a result neglect ourselves and our needs.
Most people acknowledge that they could do with a little more relaxation in their lives. Wouldn’t it be lovely to get a little bit more calm into your day? A window of relaxation?
Even if you are really busy fit this easy exercise in and you will find that you have a little extra head space. Things will seem a bit clearer. Life will seem slightly less hectic.
So give this a go…
Sit with your back upright, where ever you are and what ever you are doing right now.
Turn your attention to your breath.
Take three long breaths, make then slow and deep.
Relax as the air falls back out and feel your body relax as you do so.
Now if you’d like to bring a smile to your face at the same time try adding some words to the breathing pattern – it can be anything – something that you feel comfortable with.
This is the sort of thing…
Breath in, out,
The act of smiling makes us feel happy, the connection between the mind and body makes sure we feel the benefit of this.
So easy and such a simple thing to do. If you fit this into your day three times you will really notice the difference. Being mindful doesn’t have to mean sitting still for hours. It can be as simple as this. The more often you remember to do this the more improvement you will see and the better you will get at relaxing. To start with you could try setting a reminder on your phone to make sure you remember.
