This morning I was looking back at photos of our day out yesterday. The photos were lovely, the sky was bright blue and the children were happy. Perfect memories. But will I remember them?
It got me thinking about memories and how they are best formed and then retained.
Photos are a great way to store memories in an artificial way but it is so easy to take them, save them and then never look at them again.
Actually if we can use our Minds to store the memory and the feelings that came with it this is so much more effective. We then have the ability to recreate the happiness that went along with the particular day, event or situation whenever we chose and without a device.
Next time you are out enjoying yourself and taking photos to record the situation try also to take a mini moment of mindfulness at the same time.
Use the trigger of getting your phone out to remind yourself to come back to the moment. Notice your emotion, if you only focus on this for a moment it will stay with you and you will be able to recreate this feeling when ever you remember. Just being present in the moment really does change the amount that you retain.
