Yesterday I went to meet my sister in town. As I was driving there I was thinking about where to park. Rather than paying for time in the multi-storey car park I decided to park in the free one hour slots which are in the middle of town.
At the heart of this decision was my current focus on minimalism. In addition to saving money this kept my morning simple. The parking slot was closer to where I was meeting my sister and so I was there on time. I didn’t need to do any shopping so opting for a shorter parking time meant that I would stick to my resolution not to go spending!
I had a lovely time with my sister and then went back to the car.
I then realised I had plenty of time so I decided to go and visit Grandad. He is staying in a home just up the road.
I had the most lovely hour with him. We both really valued the time we spent together and it was so much better than a shopping trip!
Grandad is actually my friend Kate’s Grandad. I have come to know him well over the years that we have been friends – so now I call him Grandad too. So when I later sent Kate a picture of Grandad looking well and cheerful, it made her happy too.
I had the best day and I am so sure it was all because I focussed on seeing people that I care about rather than on myself or material things.
Yesterday inspired me so much to keep minimalism at the heart of my day, it really makes an instant difference. Why don’t you give it a try…what could you possibly need more than extra time and happy friends?!
