Today at work I was freezing. Sitting still at my desk all morning had really lowered my body temperature. On my lunch break I knew I needed to do something to warm myself up (other than eating everything in sight!).
I went into the garden and got an apple from the tree and then I went for a walk.
The apple really brought be back into the moment. The choice of the delicious looking fruit on the tree amazed me and made me feel so lucky. The crunch as I took my first bite and the interest I had in how the apple would taste immediately made me forget all about work. I only took a half an hour lunch break but the rays from the sunshine warmed me up completely.
Reading this account of my lunch break back, it seems too perfect, almost imaginary. But it wasn’t, it really did happen just like that. It got me thinking about how just half an hour can change your day. By giving yourself just a few minutes to be present with the experiences that you are having you really can change the way you feel. Physically I felt a million times more comfortable sitting back down to work having had a walk and warmed up. Mentally I felt refreshed and ready to work again.
Next time you think you might skip your lunch break, think again. It really could be the answer to a more comfortable and more productive afternoon. Also you may just enjoy that half an hour more than the rest of your day!
