On a rainy day like today it is easy to let the weather get you down. Meditation is a great way to raise your spirits!
Before you get started think of a time when you had a good time despite the rain. A fun time. A time where you were filled with joy.
When I did this today I remembered when I was 20 and in Thailand travelling. It was monsoon season and on my birthday a group of us swam in the sea despite the downpour that was going on. It was amazing.
Once you have decided on your memory set a timer on your phone for 5 minutes and start the meditation…
Sit up in a chair with your back straight.
Start your meditation by simply noticing your breath. Notice the rising and falling sensation in your body.
When things seem to have settled and your thoughts begin to slow then remember the happy rainy day.
Feel a smile spread across your face as your remember. If it doesn’t come naturally make it happen the first time.
As the feeling fades recall the memory again. Try not to get lost in thought about it. Just remember the feeling.
Repeat this and feel the smile spread further each time you recall.
When your timer goes off have a stretch and slowly open your eyes.
When you are back in the real world of activity try and take a moment every now and then to remember again. Keep your smile going throughout the day.
