This morning as I walked my 4 year old son, Noah, into preschool I had a striking moment of pure happiness. I held his little hand as we walked along and I really really loved being in that moment. I squeezed his hand a little tighter and savoured the moment. I had it right there, love, happiness and joy, and it was the best feeling ever.
This was Mindfulness at it’s best, simple and full of appreciation for the moment. When I think back to it now it still puts a smile on my face. A sparkle even!
Our lives tend to be full of routine, and sometimes this can seem dull. The alarm goes off at the same time. We take the same route to pre school and then work. We work about the same hours. We eat the same types of food. We go to bed at about the same time.
It is easy to think the routine is boring and to start to live for the weekend.
A great way to promote more happiness in our everyday lives is to realise and remember the value of the small things. Just like my moment with Noah this morning. When you notice a happy moment the memory of it can give you a boost each time you recreate it in your mind.
Take the time now just to stop and note down 3 small things that you have enjoyed today…
A kiss from a loved one?
The weather on your communte?
A song on the radio?
All of these are things that we could so easily take for granted – but actually aren’t they what life is all about?
By taking the time to commit these thoughts to paper you give your mind enough focus and input to really feel the benefit.
Sometimes life can seem flat but rather than taking huge steps to change our daily routines, a shake up of our mental approach and our attention works much better. Just an increased awareness of the good things in life is enough to make you feel more positive.
If you feel that you could do with more help to be present in the moment then book onto a Revitalise Session. Meditation and Mindfulness are the perfect tools!
