When was the last time you had a kiss or a cuddle?
Many of us kiss each other on the cheek on give each other a hug every time we meet but the motion is so automatic we barely notice it.
As human beings the sensation of touch is important to us.
Research by the University of Miami Touch Research Institute found that touch with moderate pressure stimulates a cranial nerve that slows heart rate and lowers blood pressure. This produces a relaxed but more attentive state. It also reduces stress hormones and may enhance immune function. In the study those who received massage for 15 minutes a day took less time on math performance tests than their counterparts.
My little boy is two. When he is seeking attention and starting to display challenging behaviour one of the best thing I can do is have the presence of mind to pick him up, give him a cuddle and a kiss and tell him I love him. This is such an easy thing to do, it solves any problems that could have arisen and makes us both feel good. It certainly relaxes us both.
Mindfulness allows us to appreciate the sensation of touch when ever it happens. It can bring huge benefits to our relationships with others.
To develop the skills that will improve all your relationships come on a revitalise day.
