Recently Noah and I looked after our friends pets whilst they were on holiday. The routine of feeding them and cleaning them out twice a day was a brilliant experience for Noah.
It struck me how having this commitment, morning and night, is a really great way to stay Mindful.
By having a routine which we are absolutely bound to carry out we learn to give part of our time every single day to the well being of another. It becomes a daily reminder of how good it feels to do something for another living being.
Even if you don’t want the commitment of having your own animals the experience of looking after some as a favour for a friend could be a great opportunity to reflect on how it feels to give your time.
Undertaking this Mindfulness experiment with your children could be a great way to teach them the benefits of helping others too.
Being present in the moment whilst you carry out the care giving is another great way to bring Mindfulness into the experience even more!
