My mum is so creative. She draws, paints, sews, gardens, all sorts.
Yesterday she sent me this picture. We bought her some pastels for christmas and this was her ‘quick go’ at using them. I was amazed, I thought it was brilliant.
When I went round to see her, later on, the pastels were still out and she gave me a piece of paper. I used the pastels to draw some leaves that were on a tissue box on the table.
I sat for about 20 minutes and worked on my sheet. It really relaxed me and I really enjoyed it. The process of adding lots of different colours to each other and seeing them blend together was really lovely.
Because I was with my mum there was absolutely no pressure and it was a really easy and safe situation to have a go. It was no masterpiece but it was very therapeutic to do.
When we sit and so something creative it really keeps us in the moment. By focusing my attention on the colours that I was applying I was using just enough thinking power to keep my brain focussed. The project was simple enough that it didn’t tax my brain so whilst I was doing it I felt that I had some mental rest.
Being mindful isn’t just about meditating it is about building times into your week where you stop, sit and relax. There are so many ways to do it, remembering is the hard part!
Come on a Revitalise Day to see how you could get more relaxation and down time into your life. Becoming committed to a more mindful way of life is such a great change to make. Before long you will love the extra space you make for your self and every one around you will benefit from the new you.
