The tradition of using up your fatty and sweet foods on pancake day is a great opportunity. Our family are taking it up this year!
The pancake batter is made (Dairy and, gluten and fat free!) and our super health kick is off to a good start.
From now until Easter Noah and I have decided we are going to count the number fruit and vegetables that we eat each day. We were so keen to do it we started a few days ago. We have been averaging about 14 a day! We have been spurred on by the recent publicity about aiming to eat 10 fruit and vegetables a day. We are both VERY competitive and determined!
Having this as a positive mission will help to take our minds off sweet treats. Every time we want a snack we are diverted to something to add to our fruit and vegetable list!!
And even better when Easter arrives and we allow ourselves some different special food we will appreciate it all the more.
Taking food for granted creeps up on us. Only when we are really hungry do we appreciate it properly. When we are well fed we take it for granted. Maybe even become greedy, and maybe eat mindlessly.
So if you would like to cut back and learn to appreciate your food again why not take this opportunity – A Mindful Lent could be just what you need.
