Last night was part one of a weekend hen do for my lovely friend Kate. We met at about 6pm and then went for a meal at 8 and then some of us stayed out later than others!
This morning I saw some photos from the later part of the evening which were put on What’s App at 3.50am!!! Waaaaay past my bedtime.
Part 2 involves an 80’s beach themed party in the day and an even bigger night out.
Since having had Noah my ability to stay out late, drink lots, be lively, and feel ok the next day has really diminished! I used to do it all the time and feel fine but more recently I have become aware of the need to look after myself a bit more.
So last night I had a pacing plan! I ate plenty in the afternoon so that any red wine later wouldn’t hit an empty stomach! I made sure I was really well hydrated by drinking lots of water.
When we got out to the restaurant I ordered a bottle of sparkling mineral water to make sure I wasn’t overdoing it. I had 2 more bottles of water and just a bit more red wine. Perfect.
I had arranged a lift home for 11 so that I was on top form for todays activities which seem set to be a bit more full on.
So the plan to keep on top of my red wine intake and to get enough sleep to feel good really paid off. I can’t wait for part two!
Mindfulness really helped me to carry out the plan of action. Here’s why…
1) I was present in the moment so I made good decisions. I was totally aware if anyone was topping my glass up so I was able to really take note of how much red wine I had consumed. Overdoing the wine would have been fatal to my plan.
2) I was really interested in meeting new people. Conversation was great and this meant I was fully enjoying myself even when sticking to mineral water. Best of all I can fully remember the chats I had.
3) I checked in with my body regularly through the night and knew I was feeling good. This made me happy and gave me the commitment to stick to the plan!
