Last night I took a Revitalise Day stand to a Christmas Shopping Event that was held at the school where my husband teaches. My really lovely friend, Julie, is on the PA and reserved me a table. We had the idea of running a mindfulness evening in the new year with the proceeds going to charity. The chosen charity was Walking With The Wounded so I was there selling tickets for the event.
I was really happy with the concept and really keen to do the session. I absolutely love spreading the amazing experience of mindfulness to as many people as I can, and raising some money for charity always makes me feel good.
What did push me out of my comfort zone was the thought of selling the tickets and having a stall at the event! I love teaching and I love mindfulness, I don’t love selling myself though! It was a huge personal challenge and one that mindfulness got me through!
So in advance of the event I focussed my attention on the advertising and the look of my stand.
I spent time creating posters which I really enjoy doing. Then I gathered together some bits to make it look more attractive. I was aware that there were some really gorgeous looking craft stalls around me and I knew that some tickets alone would not make my stand interesting! Some Orla Keily boxes, some bunting, a bright table cloth and a set of pencils with a colouring in book seemed like a good start. Again I enjoyed every minute of getting all of these bits ready.
Very importantly I did a meditation before I went to get my head in the right place. I needed to be friendly, calm, ready to listen and definitely not nervous.
Once I got there and got taking about mindfulness I was absolutely fine. Because I love it so much and because I am confident talking about it I was happy in that moment doing what I was doing. I loved it. I talked to so many interesting and lovely people. I sold 27 tickets to the meditation evening and gave 2 away to the tombola, a complete success. Perfect.
Every now and then it does us good to push our limits and to do something that is a challenge. Having mindfulness on your side is great way to make sure you have the tools to get you through.
