Yesterday I blogged about things that can help us to be mindful. I was thinking of artificial ways to prompt yourself to be mindful if you struggle. I was suggesting post it notes, phone reminders, that sort of thing.
Today I went for a walk on my lunch break and it occurred to me that often the things that help us to be mindful are right there in nature. There are plenty of natural prompts, we just need to learn to recognise them.
Many of us spend our days engrossed in our own thoughts rather than noticing what is really going on around us.
The Autumn leaves were what did it for me today. They are everywhere and they are so crunchy underfoot, and such beautiful colours. By taking notice of how the leaves look and how they sound you really are in the moment. Being more aware of our senses is a really powerful way to be more mindful.
Mindfulness is all about living in the moment. When you are present in the moment you are no longer lost in thought. No longer worrying about the future or ruminating on the past. You are just there open to enjoying yourself fully.
Try taking a walk outside today. As you go notice what nature has on offer to keep you in the moment. It might be the wind or rain on your face, it might be the leaves under your feet as you walk. Make the effort to be present with the experience and see how much better you feel for giving yourself a bit of time off from too much thinking!
Come on a Revitalise Day to enjoy the experience of being present in the moment and train your brain to be more effective at achieving it. The day retreats are held in a beautiful countryside location which is perfect for learning to enjoy the moment.
