Today I booked a train ticket to London for a trip next week.
Whilst I was doing it I was also on the phone.
I didn’t give either thing my full attention.
It got me thinking about multitasking…
Mindfulness is all about being totally present in the moment so spreading your attention between more than one thing at once perhaps seems like a total contradiction.
But is it?
Well, I think it depends what situation you are in.
If for example you are struggling to remember your password to get on to Trainline and also trying to talk to someone too, then it is probably totally mind – less and unproductive.
On the other hand a relaxing activity such as colouring in or folding your washing, and having a chat, that may work well. It can relax your mind so that you take in more of what is said and it can stop you from rushing or interrupting.
Being mindful really means being aware. So an awareness of what is working well for you, and what is hindering you, seems to be the answer to more Mindful living.
Be open to everything, even multitasking!
