Today I was reading a UK written minimalist blog. Rather than being focussed on getting rid of possessions this blog was about lifestyle.
One of the posts was supporting decluttering your life by getting rid of the commitments that you hate and only doing the things that you love.
In Mindfulness Meditation we seek to train ourselves to accept how things are in the moment. By doing this we aviod repeatedly wishing that things were different. This is something that can create a constant mental chatter.
It struck me that there could potentially be a contradiction with Mindfulness here.
…but then I thought some more…
and I decided that actually the two go side by side pretty well if you just view it from a different perspective.
Mindfulness is certainly about living in the moment more and making the most of how things are. But there is nothing to say that you shouldn’t make changes in your lifestyle.
In fact Mindfulness Meditation can help to create the necessary headspace so that you can see things more clearly and make better choices. You can make things how you want them to be.
So if your choice, when you have a clear mind, is to get rid of some commitments then go for it! Reducing your commitments and responsibilities in life could be a great way forward if it feels like life is too hectic.
Decluttering your days might just give you some more time to enjoy the things that you love – like Meditation!
