When you are getting ready for a Christmas Party or a night out is is so easy to doubt how you look. You can become convinced that you have no clothes that you look good in, that your hair looks awful, that you skin looks spotty, or that your bags under your eyes are terrible. No amount of make up can fix it! Sometimes it can get us to the stage where we don’t even want to go out and we would rather get in our PJs on the sofa!
Mindfulness is here to help.
Sit down and take 5 minutes, even if you are convinced you are in a real rush, it really will pay off.
Take some deep breaths.
Sit up straight and put your hands on your tummy.
Breathe out through your mouth so that your tummy goes as flat as it can be.
Then inhale and let your belly fill up like a big balloon.
By getting all of this clean new oxygen into your body you provide yourself with more energy and you will get some colour back in your face. When we are stressed our breathing becomes shallow. This results in the colour leaving our skin. This will actually make you look better.
By focussing on the breathing you will give yourself some headspace. You can’t do this exercise unless you concentrate on your hands moving up and down on your tummy. After the exercise you will think more clearly. This will help you to make better decisions about what you wear, how you do your make up, how to do your hair, everything!
Remember that your friends and family love you for who you are.
Finally, when you go out be interested in others. This will allow you to focus your attention on the conversation that you are having rather than to feel worried about how you look. It really does work. Other people love talking about themselves so ask lots of questions and you are away!
