Last week I met up with my Aunty Sally. We both love Meditation and Mindfulness and make it part of our lives to help us to chill out.
We were talking about mental chatter and how frustrating it can be when our heads are full of thoughts. The more you try to clear your mind the more thoughts seem to be there.
The Buddhists called this Monkey Mind and I think it describes a hectic state of mind perfectly!
The image of Monkeys swinging from tree to tree, never stopping to be calm and moving straight for the next branch to keep themselves swinging is just right!
I told Sally about a song that Noah used to sing at playgroup. It was ‘No more monkeys jumping on the bed’. Look it up on you Tube if you get the chance.
In the song the monkeys jump on the bed and one by one they fall off and bang their heads. Then the Dr comes and says ‘No more Monkey’s Jumping on the bed’.
It always makes me think it should be adapted for Mindfulness so it is ‘No more monkeys jumping in my head’! A great motivator for a meditation!
Learning to sit and let things calm down with a Meditation rather than constantly being on the go is such a great way to bring more calm into your life.
If you would like to calm the monkeys in your head then book onto a Revitalise Session. They will be calm and settled by the end of the session!
