Last night I ran a charity event at Loughborough Grammar School. It was an hour of mindfulness and meditation. I sold tickets in advance to raise money for Walking With The Wounded. We raised £160 so that felt like a real achievement.
What also felt like a massive achievement was the positive response of all those who came to the session, many of whom had never done any mindfulness meditation. For many there was an element of surprise about how accessible it was and how much they could actually relax and enjoy it.
It got me thinking about how difficult it can appear to be to start meditating, where do you go? What do you do? How do you know what to do?
I thought perhaps a bit of myth busting may be good to help others who haven’t yet ventured on a Revitalise Session (Obviously I can’t tell you what to expect with other mindfulness coaches).
1) I will never ask you to divulge anything in terms of why you want to meditate. Sometimes people start to meditate because they have issues causing them concern. Sometimes people do it to get more out of life. I will totally respect your privacy and will never ask why. If you would like to tell me about something so that you can address a specific problem then that is great but you will never be put on the spot.
2) I never ask for contributions in group sessions. I am happy to answer questions and always give time for this and for discussion at the end but I never put any pressure on anyone to give their views. You really can just sit back and relax.
3) The sessions are a really enjoyable experience. They are a chance to sit down and focus on yourself. Although you may come to join a group your experience will be personal.
4) There is no pressure to sit absolutely still in my sessions. Often people get an itch, an achey foot or the need to go to the toilet and none of these are a problem. You can enter and leave my sessions without any issue. You will not feel trapped!
So if you have been delaying coming on a Revitalise Session hold back no more, you will love it!
I run private sessions, group sessions and day retreats and can accommodate almost anything in between. Check out the testimonials!
