This morning Noah and Martyn were emptying out bags of potatoes and getting them ready for dinner later on.
They were both really happy as they were doing it. Noah found some of the different shapes hilarious. He was totally engaged as he dug his hands into the soil searching for more. The delight on his face each time he found more was lovely to see.
It was far better than him being glued to the IPad screen.
Meditation and Mindfulness are all about learning to direct our attention. With children this can be one of the best ways to start.
Most parents catch on to the power of distraction quite quickly. Getting your little one interested in something else can be a really useful tool.
By keeping your child focussed on the moment you will have the ability to divert them away from things you would rather they didn’t do without causing a battle of wills. Perfect.
So next time your little one is nagging for something that you don’t want to buy them in a shop, or making a big issue out of eating something they say they don’t like, try some distraction.
Get them focused on something else, make it interesting for them and before you know it the troublesome thoughts will have passed.
