Last night we went out for a few drinks with our lovely friends, Alex and Jane and Emma and Peter. We three girls got chatting and we covered a million topics during the evening.
We got talking about relationships and how amazing it is that we have grown so close and that we are all very honest and open with each other. We really feel that can talk about absolutely anything when we are together.
So when we go out it is almost like a counselling session. We tell each other our worries and difficulties in life and then we feel so much better about them. It got me thinking about how much sharing helps.
Talking to those who we trust about the issues in our life really is a great way to address them. If we try to hide what is worrying us then it seems to gather momentum and multiply, as we resist thinking about it the thoughts come back thicker and faster.
When we talk about things we face up to them. If we give them our attention then we stop resisting them and then they seem to run out of steam.
Mindfulness allows us to deal with our thoughts more skilfully using the same logic.
If a thought keeps coming back again and again and it seems to be plaguing you then try giving it your full attention rather than seeking to push it away.
Really try to keep your focus on that thought. Before long your mind will have wandered and your thoughts will be somewhere else completely.
So often a mindful approach can allow you to deal more effectively with challenges that life throws at you. If you would like to find out more book onto a Revitalise Session and see how much better you feel.
