This morning, on our lovely Cornish holiday, we went for a walk through the woods. It was sunny but shaded and the trees just looked amazing set against the clear blue sky.
I stopped for a moment and looked up and this beautiful old tree took my attention. I couldn’t resist a blog photo!
It got me thinking about a meditation that I love to do at times when I need to remember my own strength and resilience and the ability that I have to keep myself nourished and on top form.
As always I sit up straight in a chair with my feet flat on the floor and my hands on my lap.
So set yourself up and have a go at this…
Move your awareness to your body, and start to move the focus of your attention slowly down from the top of your head.
Relax into your awareness of your body as you scan down.
Relax your eyes and mouth.
Release your shoulders.
Gradually move your awareness down through your torso and legs to the soles of your feet.
Feel your feet planted firmly on the ground.
Imagine that you have roots and that they are travelling deep down into the soil beneath you.
Sense the great strong roots spreading wide and deep.
Feel the energy and the nourishment that comes from the earth travelling up through your roots. Stay with this sensation.
Take your attention back to the soles of your feet.
Feel the energy flowing up through your body.
Move your awareness slowly back up through your body.
Take your attention from your feet, through your legs, your thighs, your torso and arms, your chest, your neck, and your head.
Then hold the whole of your body in your attention and simply enjoy being present in the moment.
Before you jump up to get on with life spend a few minutes enjoying the sense of strength and nourishment that you have created.
