Mum and I booked a last minute get away this week. I booked the week off work a while ago and Mum kept it free in her diary too.
I love being at home and it always makes it a tough decision for me to go away. But yesterday I decided that I really fancied a trip to the sea side so I set about finding a deal on booking.com.
I came across a cancellation booking that was going cheap and we lept on it. It was right in the heart of Padstow and it looked lovely. Things got even better when the booking agent called to say that unfortunately the property we had booked had boiler problems and they needed to move us into another property which had a HOT TUB!
As I listened to the answer phone message I was so excited! The second it finished I had to call mum and tell her. She was equally excited.
It got me thinking about the element of surprise and how much it can add to the pleasure we get from a situation.
Getting the hot tub thrown in as a last minute treat made it so special. We weren’t expecting it at all. It made me think about my approach to situations. When you have no expectation and something nice happens it seems so special and exciting. If you are half expecting or hoping for a situation to arise it never seems so special even if it does happen as you anticipate.

Every day holds great experiences for each of us. Learning to notice these opportunities for happiness is a real life skill that it can take time to develop. Come on a Revitalise Day to see how you could benefit from a more mindful lifestyle.
