By this morning I was really quite sleep deprived. I finished work at about half past 3 and this was the end of a run of late shifts.
I went to bed for a few hours but all too soon it was time to get up and help Noah get ready for school.
Once I was out in the fresh air I felt so much better, so when Noah went to school, I went for a ride on lovely Ladybird.
As we headed out I could feel she was absolutely full of grass. I was also lethargic. So we took it steady and went for a plod.
For me going slowly doesn’t usually sit easy. I have a natural want to go FASTER. But this morning because I was tired going slowly worked ok. I actually managed to sink back into it and to accept how things were.
By the time we got back Ladybird and I both felt great. A bit of gentle exercise was just what we needed. Then I knew it was time for sleep!
learning to listen to my body is constant challenge. Accepting when I need to take things easy makes such a difference to how I recover from night shifts. Mindfulness really helps me in this quest because it allows me to remember to stop for a minute and see how I am feeling.
Mindfulness really is this simple. It is all about taking a few seconds every now and then to recognise what is going on for you. When you become more aware you can then try to make better choices. This way you really can feel great!
