This afternoon I had a snooze to catch up on some sleep before another night shift. As I was lying in bed having woken up I lay listening to my breath for ages. It was in the best Meditation EVER.
There was no effort it was just happening. I was totally aware. I could feel the rising and falling sensation of my breath. My breath was in a lovely steady rhythm. Thoughts did enter my head but then they moved on and my focus remained with my breath.
And right then I had a really clear realisation. Mindfulness has become such a huge part of my life that it really does fill my day. But totally without effort.
I wake up Meditating – awareness of my body and my breath has become a totally natural state.
I go out into the world and feel aware. I am aware of emotions, the weather, how things feel – I LOVE everything more.
If uncomfortable sensations or events crop up I know now, just wait and they will pass.
And I always go to seep Meditating.
So how did I get to this state?
Well just by sticking with it. By using every opportunity to fit a little Meditation in. And by never thinking I have cracked it.
I know there are still situations where Mindfulness escapes me and I am maybe thoughtless or not as caring towards others as I would have liked to be. But I keep trying. I never give up.
I have quite an addictive personality so committing to something is one of my strengths. With Mindfulness this is a huge benefit.
If you constantly strive to be Mindful be reassured that you will get there just through sticking with it.
Again and again, every time you remember just come back to the sensation of your breath and notice how you feel. It really is that simple.
When you take a moment to be Mindful you give yourself a chance to get back on track.
You can’t see Mindfulness growing but after a while you will notice how huge it has become.
