Last night I went on a girlie night with some of my oldest and best friends. I wasn’t feeling on top form. My glands were up and I thought if I have a night drinking red wine it wouldn’t do me any good. I really didn’t want to cancel because it is quite rare that we all manage to get out on the same night so I decided to be the designated driver.
We didn’t stop talking all night. It felt like we discussed everything in the world! We remembered good times and talked about the university years, school days, ex boyfriends. We looked forward to events that are coming up. One of my friend’s is getting married next year so we were looking at ideas for her dress. We caught up with what everyone was doing at the moment and I really, really, enjoyed it.
Recognising that I didn’t feel great was one of the best things I could have done. I drank lots of sparkling mineral water with lemon which made me feel as though I had been on a full detox! I was really alert and focussed on our conversation all night because there was no alcohol involved. This morning I woke feeling much better than before and took Noah for a ride. It was a win win situation.
Before I went out I did fancy a glass of red wine. It was Friday night and I always love that first drink. It feels like a real treat at the end of the working week. Mindfulness really helped me to make the right decision and look after myself. By thinking clearly about how I wanted to feel today and what would be best for me I had a great night and am still fully enjoying the rest of the weekend.
Sometimes doing the right thing can be difficult. When you learn to be mindful it becomes much more possible. When you are switched on to how you feel you notice when looking after yourself is the right decision. When you are mindful you are able to stick to your guns and feel pleased with yourself.
Come on a Revitalise Day to get started on a more mindful way of life. A meditation practise is a great way to begin and on a day retreat you will really get to grips with some exercises that will leave you inspired you make meditation part of your day.
