My lovely friend Kaya came over today. She arrived, as usual, looking super glamorous and elegant. Once I had plied her with a coffee and a snack I broke the news to her that we needed to go and do the horses for the evening.
I kitted her out in wellies and a waterproof and we headed to the field. She was amazing and happily followed me round whilst I fed the horses and took the wheel barrow round picking up horse poo.
Horsey jobs are a million miles from Kaya’s normal life. She is a town girl through and through. Despite this taking her out of her comfort zone it didn’t bother her at all. So long as we were chatting and catching up she was game for anything.
It struck me that one of the best qualities we can have as a friend is to be adaptable. We all struggle to find time to fit everything in that we want to do.
If we are too selective about where we will go and what activities are ok we can loose the opportunity to see those who we really care about.
Friends really should be a priority in life. Friendship is a basic human need and makes us feel so much better. Sharing experiences, laughing and confiding in each other makes everything seem better.
If you feel as though you can’t make enough time for your friends then mindfulness could help. When you learn to meditate you gain the ability to see situations clearly. This means you can filter all the competing demands that life throws at you. It helps you to keep on top of the most important aspects that make up a happy life.
